Cathryn de Prume

Teacher and Owner

My parents were both teachers. My mom ran her own preschool in our Park Slope, Brooklyn brownstone. My dad was a high school language teacher and spoke six languages. My parents believed teaching was the most noble profession. They instilled in me the value of giving back. I saw the profound effects they had on their students over the years.

As brilliant and inspiring as they were, my childhood was chaotic and unpredictable. The idea of becoming another character in a story was my burning desire as soon as I discovered there was a profession called acting. At eleven I saved up my babysitting money and enrolled myself in an acting class. That’s when my world opened up. I found a place to express myself and found my passion.

I then attended NYC’s High School of the Performing Arts. It was heaven on earth. Kids from all backgrounds from all over the city studied their art together. I cherished every day I attended. I went to school to play! I made friends for life. We bonded forever because acting does that. It connects people’s souls. I started teaching to give that back to the next generation.

I started working professionally at age 15. I’ve worked in TV and film since. I’ve had the amazing fortune to work alongside Reese Witherspoon, William H. Macy, Shirley Maclaine, Jodie Foster, Brendan Frasier, to name a few. Some of my more notable credits include, Wild, Shameless, Code Black, Halt and Catch Fire and more, including a series regular on the FOX show, Down the Shore in the 90’s. I wrote and directed 3 short films and produced several.

I performed my one-woman show, Blended Salad, based on my wacky family in several Los Angeles theaters.

Recently I was awarded best actress in a short film at the Cannes World Film Festival.

I’ve studied with many masters over the years. Some of my favorites include, Anthony Abeson, Shelly Winters, Warren Robertson, John Lehne, Milton Katselas, Richard Lawson, Jocelyn Jones and Stuart Rogers.

I live in Silverlake, (Los Angeles), with my daughter, Kylie and my husband, Brent. We have a bunny named Mr. Bun Bun and a Leopard Gecko named Mango.
